I know it looks like there’s no copyright tag on this one…but trust me. It’s there.

Bats Win!!!!

Moira and I had a great day at the ballpark. Hats were bought and nachos were devoured. And dad had a beer.

And the Riverbats won. Moira wants to go again tomorrow night to get autographs. Not from the players…oh no. From the mascot, Buddy Bat.

I know I use Facebook to alert friends and family about a new strip.

But, please feel free to comment here at HardKnox also. That way, I don’t have to sift through all of the facebook flotsam and jetsam to get your feedback and comments.

Now, I’m off to the baseball park with Moira. Go Riverbats!

6/15/09: Something kinda serious

“Don’t sacrifice success for the sake of perfection.”

This is my new attitude towards my work. I thought of it while working with Kelley Helson on a project to upgrade software at the school at which we teach.

It means don’t get mired in the minute details to the point that nothing ever happens. If perfection is impossible, then why make it the goal?

The truth of the matter is that most people will never see the majority of the work that goes into the completion of a project. They only have a preconceived notion of what the end result will be. If you can satisfy those preconceived notions, then focus on those. Achieve that goal and success is yours. Like it or not, most people never notice the tiniest of details. They just want to know if it works or not.

To apply that to a comic strip, if a repeating element in a strip (let’s say a tree that is in the background) doesn’t look EXACTLY the same in every panel, most readers won’t notice. They don’t actually give a shit. It just has to be good enough.

Not every joke has to be the greatest joke ever written. It’s okay if some are just funny enough. The goal is to entertain readers every day. What entertains them is a sliding scale of acceptibility.

So, I just need to produce everyday. As long as I improve with each strip, then I’m on the right track.

Let me leave you with this refridgerator magnet wisdon: Leap, and the net will appear.

Whatever the fuck that means.
